Despite Tamilnadu having the third highest Omicron cases in India, the State government on Friday did not impose any new restrictions or relaxations to the existing Covid curfew.

However, the restrictions to visit beaches on 31 December and 1 January will continue.

In view of expert opinion that the coronavirus spread, including that of the Omicron strain, may increase if public gathered in large numbers during festivals, people must avoid crowding and strictly follow Covid-19 appropriate behaviour, Tamilnadu Chief Minister M K Stalin said.

Stalin, after chairing a high level consultative meeting appealed to the people to fully cooperate with the government to curb the virus spread.
