Heavy rains: Flood alert issued to Tamilnadu

A flood alert was sounded to the people living on the banks of the Bhavani River near Mettupalayam following the release of the inflow of surplus water from Pilloor Dam due to incessant rains in Coimbatore and Nilgiris districts.

The capacity of the Pilloor damn has reached 97 feet, with the full capacity being 100 feet. The surplus water was released as a security measure for the dam. 14,000 cusecs water is being released into the river.

Senior Revenue officials visited the area and reviewed the safety measures and made arrangements to accommodate marriage halls and schools as well.

Nilgiris district has been experiencing incessant rains for the last couple of days. People in the areas in Thekkampatti, Nellithurai, Mettupalayam, Alankombu and Sirumugai were also asked to move to higher places.
