The shutters of the Mullaiperiyar dam in Kerala, operated by Tamilnadu, have been raised after three years as the water level in the reservoir crossed 138 ft.

The opening of shutters, however, did not cause any untoward incident downstream as the water level in Periyar river remained low and life was normal along its banks. The red alert sounded at Idukki reservoir was changed to orange.

Kerala Minister for Land Revenue K Rajan said that the State has taken all necessary measures and precautions have been implemented on account of the opening of the shutters.
