Assam floods: Over 6.62L hit, death toll rises

The flood situation in Assam deteriorated with the death the toll rising to nine in the current pre-monsoon floods and landslides. As per the Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA), the number of affected increased to 6.62 lakh in 27 districts.

Bajali, Baksa, Barpeta, Biswanath, Bongaigaon, Cachar, Charaideo, Darrang, Dhemaji, Dibrugarh, Dima-Hasao, Goalpara, Hailakandi, Hojai, Kamrup, Kamrup (M), Karbi Anglong West, Karimganj, Kokrajhar, Lakhimpur, Majuli, Morigaon, Nagaon, Nalbari, Sonitpur, Tamulpur, Udalguri, Darrang and Nalbari districts have been affected by the flood.

According to the latest bulletin of ASDMA, 46160.43 hectares of crop area have been inundated and massive erosion has been reported from Chirang, Darrang, Dhubri, Barpeta, Bongaigaon, Charaideo, Dibrugarh, Kamrup Metropolitan, Nalbari, Tinsukia, Udalguri, Sivasagar, Sonitpur, Tamulpur and districts.
