Amid fears of Delta Plus variant of coronavirus, Chief Minister M K Stalin has said the Tamilnadu government is ready to face the third wave of the pandemic.

“People need not worry. We are all geared up in case if the third wave happens,” he said.

Tamilnadu has reported its first case of Delta Plus variant of the SARS-CoV-2. The patient was a 32-year-old staff nurse in Chennai, but she has recovered now, officials said.

Health Secretary Dr J Radhakrishnan, who has been handling the pandemic crisis, said there was no need for alarm.

“We have seen the British variant and double mutant variant. There is no need to panic as of now,” Radhakrishnan said.

He emphasised upon the need to adhere to Covid-19 prevention measures like wearing face mask, avoiding crowds and getting vaccinated.
